Keith Swinton’s passion for sailing began in Perth at the age of eight and the list of competitions, classes and achievements he has under his belt belies his age. He’s competed in Olympic Class Sailing, on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour, in IRC Racing and One Design Racing in a number of classes, including 420, 470, 29er, Tornado, Etchell and Flying 15. However, he considers match racing to be the most enjoyable and is now his focus.
Swinton was involved in coaching a number of women’s match racing teams training for London 2012, in particular the Swedish team who he has coached for over three years.
Swinton’s inclusion in the list of 2012 Tour Card Holders was testimony to his team’s performances in 2011, when they claimed both the Berlin Match Race and the Chicago Match Race after beating many of the teams who compete on the Tour. During 2012 Swinton performed consistently including winning the St Moritz match Race setting himself up for a podium finish for the year but it was not to be when a 6th place at the Monsoon Cup saw him drop to 4th place, a frustratingly close but non the less a great performance for the team.
