Marstrand, Sweden – 5 July, 2010 –

Stena Match Cup Sweden has created yet another exemplary programme of daily events both on and off the water. Located on the west coast of Sweden the island lends itself to the dedication of yachting pleasures and is celebrating its 16th year for 2010. The locals annually go to great efforts in order to run ‘Sweden’s largest international sailing event’ and it is a key calendar date for the nation’s Segelsällskap (Sailing Society).
A large tented race village greets both fans and sailors as they reach Marstrand’s shore leading up to the beautiful and spacious castle which hosts the VIP roof terrace, media centre, sailor’s lounge, organizers offices as well as TV and communications. Spectators are based only 10 metres away from the race course on the rocks of the Halla promontory, originally a view point for the local fisherman to gauge if conditions were right to venture out fishing.

Marstrand is renowned for offering 7 days of intense sporting activity every summer during the long day light hours. The WMRT sailors have arrived in force today all anxious to register, weigh in and get out onto the race arena for their training sessions. They will be joined on the water today with 10 of the World’s top women’s match racing teams who have started their own separate event. As well as the match racing with daily press conferences and social ‘After Sail’ for sailors to catch up after racing, Stena Match Cup Sweden is running a Junior Cup regatta, screening the FIFA World Cup on a big screen, running a ProAm race for sponsors and VIPs as well as providing free children’s entertainment through the event’s official charity, Childhood.
Stena Match Cup Sweden is a turning point for the ISAF World Match Racing Tour as it marks the half way point of the 10 event 2010 series. Some of the skippers have now been on the road constantly heading to different Tour events for 4 months now. From this point onwards it will become increasingly vital for teams to secure Tour points and push themselves up the ladder and step confidently onto the podium at all the remaining 5 stages.
